Midterm
Welcome to Math 9A.
The
summer is over. No more boring time that you have to spent on the
beach. For the next ten weeks you can enjoy the pleasures
of Calculus.
- The course is based on the book
Calculus with Analytical Geometry (Sixth
edition),
by R. E. Larson, R. P. Hostetler and B. E. Edwards.
Houghton
Mifflin, 1998.
We will cover the topics: Limits and continuity, differentiation,
maxima and minima,
applications to other subjects and indefinite integrals,
i.e. chapters 1 - 3 with some
omissions and parts of chapter 4.
It is highly recommended that you review
pre-calculus,
in particular: TRIGONOMETRY.
Here are the
rules of the Game:
- There will be one midterm (in class) in the
6th. week.
- (Almost) every week there will be a quiz in
the discussion sections.
From these 7 quizzes only the best 6 count. Questions for the quizzes
will be taken from the homework assignment.
- There are no make-up quizzes or make-up exams.
- Starting with the third week your homework
will be collected at the
beginning of each class. Late homework will not be accepted.
Please staple the sheets and write your full name (clearly,
LAST NAME, FIRST NAME), the name or your TA and the discussion
section number on the front page. Your student ID is NOT necessary.
A reader will correct part of the homework and it will be returned.
It is normal to have problems with calculus, in particular
at the beginning. You are
highly encouraged to come to my office hours, to the office hours of your TA,
pose
questions in class and in the discussion sections (or by email) and to discuss
the
material with other students.
