Alexander Hoffnung

Alexander Hoffnung

I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Riverside, working with Professor John Baez on categorification of Hecke algebras and related topics.

Education

I received my undergraduate degree in mathematics and computer information science from Brooklyn College at the City University of New York. My senior research included an implemention of a relevance sensitive belief revision program designed on the ideas in a paper, found here, by my advisor Dr. Samir Chopra. Before that I studied at Eugene Lang College at the New School University in Manhattan. It is a great place. If you don't know about it, you should check it out.

Papers.

Convenient Categories of Smooth Spaces (with John Baez) (Accepted for publication in Transactions of the American Mathematical Society)
Categorified Symplectic Geometry and the Classical String (with John Baez and Chris Rogers)
Groupoidification Made Easy (with John Baez and Christopher Walker) (in progess)

Need to get the dates...Well, here are some.
Unknown date and time - Lecture on categories of smooth spaces in the Mathematical Physics Seminar
Spring 2008 - Series of 5 lectures on smooth spaces in the Quantum Gravity Seminar
11/06/08 - Lectures on category theory, groupoidification, and Hecke algebras in the Groupoid Seminar
