FACULTY POSITIONS IN
ALGEBRA AND ANALYSIS
Applications and nominations are invited for faculty positions beginning July 1, 2007 for the following areas:
(1) One open-rank position (tenure-track Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Full Professor) in the area of Analysis/Applied Mathematics (e.g. Applied Analysis, Complex Analysis, Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems, Functional Analysis, Harmonic Analysis, Mathematical Physics, Nonlinear Analysis, Operator Algebras, Probability Theory, etc.)
(2) One tenure-track Assistant Professor in Algebra (e.g. Algebraic Geometry, Combinatorics, Commutative Algebra, Lie Algebra, Number theory, etc.)
A doctorate in Mathematics is required. Tenure track Assistant Professor applicants are expected to have demonstrated excellent teaching and research, normally including major contributions beyond the doctoral dissertation. Responsibilities of these positions include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses and seminars, conducting scholarly research and participating in departmental and university service activities. An appointee at Associate and Full Professor levels has to be a leader in his/her research area with an outstanding academic record. Also, ability and success to attract external funding are desirable. Established criteria of the University of California will determine salary and level of appointment.

Applications and nominations are invited for the F. Burton Jones Chair. The University seeks a distinguished scholar recognized for outstanding research in all areas of Pure Mathematics. This prestigious chair was established with the generous endowment by the late emeritus Professor F. Burton Jones. It is expected that the holder of the Jones Chair will be a scholar of distinction, with national and international recognition for scholarly achievement. It is hoped that the position will be filled by July 1, 2007. The appointment will be with tenure at the rank of full professor and it is expected that the appointee will perform all the duties thereof.
